FAQ

  • Gold fill, also known as "rolled gold" or "gold overlay," is a type of material used in jewelry making. It is made by bonding a layer of gold to a base metal, such as brass, copper, or silver, through a mechanical process of heat and pressure.

The thickness of the gold layer is regulated by law and must be at least 5% of the total weight of the item. Gold-filled jewelry is different from gold-plated jewelry, which has a thinner layer of gold and is often made by dipping a base metal into a solution of gold.

Gold-filled jewelry is more durable than gold-plated because of the thicker layer of gold. It also has a higher value than gold-plated jewelry because of the greater amount of gold used in its production. However, gold-filled jewelry is still less expensive than solid gold jewelry, making it a popular choice for those looking for high-quality jewelry at a more affordable price.

  • Thanks to it’s thick gold layer, gold fill is very tarnish resistant. It’s a great (and economical) alternative to solid gold jewelry. It’s easy to maintain and normally lasts a lifetime.

To keep your gold filled jewelry as shiny and beautiful as possible, it’s recommended to take it off when swimming in salt water or chlorine—but totally okay with shower with!

Contact with harsh chemicals should be avoided, but mild soaps and lotions are usually okay.

A Honey Koshka polishing cloth can be used if your jewelry is starting to look dull.
